Paris Hilton Stupidly Busted on Felony Cocaine

Moral of the story: if you’re a celebrity like Paris Hilton—possessing a drug like coke that carries a minimum felony charge--don’t let your boyfriend smoke pot in the Escalade while you’re in it. It’s probably also a good idea to roll the windows up—not down—so that marijuana doesn’t openly drift down the street and attract attention of police. If you can’t do any of the above, possibly picking a state that doesn’t enforce a no-tolerance drug policy--like that of Nevada--is a better idea.

Paris Hilton’s been arrested, following a stop and arrests by a Nevada state motorcycle police officer who says he smelled ""the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle". Hilton was traveling in a black Cadillac Escalade driven by current boyfriend Cy Waits and the cop claims the celebrity tried to roll up the car's window when she saw him. The Cadillac—driven by Paris Hilton’s boyfriend on the Las Vegas Strip—resulted in a search of Hilton and arrest of both. Police say they found cocaine in the celebrity’s purse.

Police stopped Paris Hilton and the celebrity’s boyfriend--Las Vegas nightclub mogul Cy Waits--late Friday night, in the proximity of the Wynn Las Vegas located on Las Vegas Boulevard in Nevada. Following the stop, 29-year-old Hilton requested entering the Wynn hotel for privacy, claiming she was "extremely embarassed" by the increasing crowd that was quickly accumulating. Hilton's Wynn Hotel request might have been a smart idea, had it not been followed by idiocy. The celebrity requested to use the hotel's bathroom and told the cop she needed lip balm--actually receiving her purse back from the police officer. In what may be bad luck following stupidity, the officer claims that "As she [Hilton] began to open it [her purse], I saw a small bindle of what I believed to be cocaine in a clear baggie begin to fall from the purse and into my hand."

Police claim that testing that .8 grams of "substance" confirms it to be: cocaine. The celebrity’s possession of the drug (roughly, less than a quarter size of an "8-ball") is deemed "a small amount" by law enforcement--a package size of the drug normally associated with personal use. Unfortunately for Hilton, “personal” use size, or not, still amounts to a felony possession of coke in Nevada. On the fortunate side, the celebrity is “self-employed” so doesn’t have to be concerned with reduced employment opportunities associated with a felony on record.

Cy Waits, 34, has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol or drugs after the police stop—police most likely awaiting blood test results before official charges be filed. Hilton has been arrested on suspicion of felony cocaine possession—both booked into local Clark County jail late Friday, subsequently released without bail within hours of jail booking. The celebrity's now claiming the new-old standby: the purse, she says, is hers--but had been in the possession of a friend.

Dumb and dumber: first, be a celebrity and allow your boyfriend to smoke pot in the car you’re traveling in, providing police a reason to search your person where they’d otherwise have none. Second, allow your boyfriend to smoke pot in the car when he’s only facing a misdemeanor—but you’re facing a felony.
