Numerous “Miss America” titleholders have managed to make themselves the butt of jokes but the former 1996 “Miss Universe” is upping the ante through confusing the Koreas with China: pageant winner Alicia Machado may be on a mission for peace, but her Twitter-expressed hope that “these attacks between the Chinas do not make our situation worse” has forced the beauty queen offline.
Venezuela's former “Miss Universe” -- Alicia Machado – has had enough of the jokes, choosing to close her online Twitter account after being bombarded by jokes pertaining to her confusion of the Koreas and China. While trying to tackle the political concern of North Korea's artillery attack on a South Korean island, the beauty queen winner has gotten herself very stuck – all while tweeting for world peace.
"Tonight I want to ask you to join me in a prayer for peace, that these attacks between the Chinas do not make our situation worse," the former “Miss Universe” tweeted.
In the defense of beauty queen winners across the nation and world, many prime screw-ups and blunders are related to on-camera nerves or on-air interviews. In this case, there’s no excuse: the former “Miss Universe” should’ve skipped speaking about a topic on which she has no knowledge – or at least looked up the facts first. Apparently technology works for sending tweets, but doesn’t function for fact-checking.
Perhaps it's the size of China that confused "Miss Universe" -- with all that land, there's gotta be more than one country comprising all of that space.
The resulting “scene”, after Alicia Machado’s comments, hasn’t been pretty: insulting posts flooded Twitter following the Koreas and China mix-up. The former “Miss Universe” finally went offline. "I now have a lot of psychopaths on the [Twitter] account and it's best I start another one, kisses," she signed off, reports Venezuela’s media.
Of course that makes sense – if it doesn’t work out, just start anew. It’s a bit unclear as to how Machado believes that a new Twitter account is somehow going to rectify the blunder.
Things could be worse for the beauty queen pageant winner: at least “Miss Universe” didn’t say anything along the lines of “they all look alike”.
