In The News

Sometimes a stolen purse is worth letting go: ABC news cameras captured video of an unusual event first reported as a man trying to retrieve a stolen wallet from a speeding car that hits speeds of 35 miles per hour (mph). Then it was a 'stolen purse'--but that too is deemed a bit off. It's a "misunderstanding" according to Stockton, California, police.

He was clinging for life to a speeding red car, across from a CA police station. The Stockton man continued to reach through the window while holding on -- as the car he's hanging from reaches speeds estimated 35 miles per hour. The man's feet were actually shown in hte video footage as dragging and skipping along on the pavement while the vehicle races down the street. Despite the speed, he was not letting go.

Rumors circulated that the dragged guy could be a Hollywood stunt man. But life is stranger than fiction: It was all real. And it turns out he's the guy to have on your side: The man from Stockton was risking his life, and even climbing through the window of a moving vehicle, all because he thought his friend's stolen purse was in the speeding car.

That's quite a lot of action in the name of a friend.

As it turns out, there wasn't a stolen purse in the car. Police confirm no stolen goods were in the vehicle. It was all dubbed a 'misunderstanding' -- which could explain why the car's driver was upping speeds in efforts to get away. Perhaps having a strange guy hanging from his car, making every effort to bust into the vehicle through an open window at high speeds, spooked the driver a little.

The absolute best video clip of the Stockton scenario is the actual ABC video of a follow-up interview with the guy seen hanging from the car. It seems the news outlet that happened to be on scene when chaos broke loose in Stockton -- and apparently did a bit of follow-up. The Stockton interview is worth viewing humor for that alone -- about on par with the video of Antoine Dodson in Huntsville after he fought off his sister's attacker.

It seems the California guy who easily hangs off the side of a car has a really hard time finding a shirt to wear. The absence of any shirt is a bit inexplicable considering he's standing in front of his own house for the ABC interview. But perhaps it wasn't laundry day.
