Cats may have nine lives but a lucky herd of five goats in New Jersey has at least three. The goats have been saved by police, on two counts, after the animals were found rambling down a northern New Jersey streets in Paterson.

A woman phoned Paterson, New Jersey, police after a near miss and collision with the herd while driving. That was at around 2:30 a.m., with the goats then escorted to a local animal shelter by police.

The goats are slated to head to a farm, to live out their days in peace. While barely escaping a vehicular accident, the herd is actually believed to have escaped another near miss. Farm animals aren't legally allowed in Paterson city but New Jersey police believe someone in the area was actually keeping the herd on hand for other purposes -- like an Easter meal or sacrifice.

Lucky goats. Now if only they always landed on their feet.
