Al and Tipper Gore separate just two weeks after celebrating their 40-Year Anniversary, choosing to notifying friends via email of their marriage separation.
 
Politico says "Al and Tipper Gore, whose playful romance enlivened Washington and the campaign trail for a quarter century, have decided to separate after 40 years of marriage, the couple told friends and associates today. In an “Email from Al and Tipper Gore,” the couple said: “We are announcing today that after a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to separate. This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration. We ask for respect for our privacy and that of our family, and we do not intend to comment further.”
 
Former Vice President Al Gore and wife Tipper Gore are separating two weeks after celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary, according to an email signed by both Gores and obtained by Politico.
 
Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, and wife Tipper Gore, are one of Washington's most well-known power couples. Even after losing the 2000 Presidential Election to George W. Bush, the Gores remained active in campaigning for causes and figures, including now-President Obama in 2008. Al Gore won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize and an Academy Award, for his film raising awareness in climate change, "An Inconvenient Truth." Tipper Gore is still noted for her role in co-creating the Parents Music Resource Center in 1985, which lead the "Parental Advisory" industry rating system for music albums.
 
The Gores recently purchased an $8.875 million dollar villa in Montecino, California. How the couple's assets are to be split has not been reported.
 
Also no word on how the couple chose Email as the best format in which to notify friends of the split.
