Worlds Strongest Beer Packaged in Taxidermy Road Kill

BrewDog’s “The End of History” beer has been deemed the world’s strongest beer—at 55% alcohol content—and is slated as the brewery’s final high ABV-content beer the company will manufacture. At a minimum of more than US $700 per bottle of the limited run, each brew is kindly packaged in road kill—not harmed in the making of the BrewDog beer.

The End of History is a blonde, Belgian ale that’s infused with nettles from the Scottish Highlands, and with fresh juniper berries. BrewDog brewery manufactured only 12 bottles of the beer, adding to its price tag—but creating most of the brew’s expense may be its individual and unique presentation which truly makes no two of the beers alike: each End of History beer is presented to customers in a taxidermy-stuffed stoat or grey squirrel.

Where did the grey squirrels and stoat come from? The road, of course. No animals were harmed in making The End of History brews—all beer packaging was created by a taxidermist, using (or re-using) animals literally found as road kill. The world’s most expensive beer run includes seven stoats, sold at £500 each; grey squirrels ran a bit higher, at £700 each—either of which add up to a lot of US bucks.

The current manufacture run—which includes the dozen bottles of brew--is entirely sold out.

Early in 2010, BrewDog released “ Sink the Bismarck” brew, a 41 % beer that was created in response to what BrewDog says was a German brewery stealing the title from the brewery’s 32 % “Tactical Nuclear Penguin” brew.

Describing its “The End of History” brew as “to beer what democracy is to history,” BrewDog says, “Fukuyama defined history as the evolution of the political system and traced this through the ages until we got the Western Democratic paradigm. For Fukuyama this was the end point of man’s political evolution and consequently the end of history. The [The End of History ] beer is the last high ABV beer we [The End of History ] are going to brew, the end point of our research into how far we can push the boundaries of extreme brewing, the end of beer”.
