Released today is a bedtime book to give parents a bit of peace in having kids: "Go the F**k to Sleep" is officially released June 14, with Amazon pre-sales numbering in the hundreds of thousands on the path of the soon-to-be bestseller.
A San Francisco-based father, book author and Rutgers University professor, Adam Mansbach has released what is bound to be his new best-seller for adults: “Go the F**k to Sleep”. The 32-page masterpiece in literature may look like it's for kids, but it's all for adults -- specifically, tired and worn-out parents. Illustrations by Ricardo Cortés round out the bedtime-themed book that's more about kids than for kids -- with a theme that hits home for sleep-deprived and weary adults. Pre-sales have put the book as an Amazon.com bestseller on pre-sale alone even though the physical hardback wasn't slated for release until June 14.
Pre-sales for “Go the F**k to Sleep” are in the hundreds of thousands.
Mansbach seems to have a hit on his hands, with what the author says started with sleepless nights as a parent -- with a two-year-old daughter -- and a Facebook post, where the author jokingly said he was going to write a kids' book with the theme.
Adam Mansbach is both a professor and professional author of four previous titles. The award-winning author normally writes about serious topics including race and religion. But “Go the F**k to Sleep” he says was written just a couple weeks following his Facebook reference to the forthcoming title.
“Go the F**k to Sleep” first came on the scene and went viral in PDF form, a release which Mansbach made hints about via Facebook .
The bedtime rhymes for parents are unforgettable and hit a chord for parents across the nation:
“The cats nestle close to their kittens now.
The lambs have laid down with the sheep.
You’re cozy and warm in your bed, my dear
Please go the f**k to sleep."
If that doesn't work for your sleep-deprived nights as a parent, try the more blunt:
"The owls fly forth from the treetops,
Through the air they soar and they sweep,
A hot, crimson rage fills my heart, love.
For real: shut the f**k up and sleep."
In honor of the book release, Esquire Magazine asked Mansbach to write about the woes of feeding a child -- aptly titled: "Eat Your Fking Brussels Sprouts"
It appears a series may be in the works.
