A woman in Stamford, Connecticut, obtains DNA evidence for police in a most unusual way and highly effective way--battling an attacker she helped police catch, by biting off his tongue during an attempted sexual assault.

The lady was grabbed in an alley near a Roman Catholic church in Stamford, at about ten o'clock at night as leaving the church. While the man tried to sexually assault and rape her, the woman fought back--refusing to become his victim: The Connecticut woman successfully bit off a good-sized chunk of the man's tongue as he tried to force his tongue into her mouth. Thanks to her fast thinking and instincts, police have evidence for prosecuting alleged attacker Gerard Michael Landon.

As police Sergeant Paul Guzda phrased it: “It was a substantial piece of his tongue." Such a substantial piece, in fact, that cops were actually able to retrieve the body part from the scene of the crime. The sexual assault victim bit off a good inch of the man's tongue.

Where he is now is very different than where he tried to get treatment: 46-year-old Gerard Landon is now hospitalized after trying to get treated at a Stamford (CT) massage and chiropractic clinic. Allegedly responsible for attempted sexual assault, Landon's being held on half a million dollars bail.
