Ever feel like there’s something you’ve forgotten but just can’t remember what it was? Andrew Surplus is probably smacking his head over this one: while trying to rob a Kohl’s store of leather goods, he plain forgot to pick up his 2-year-old daughter.

The search is on for a Ridley Township, Pennsylvania man whom allegedly tried to steal five leather coats from Kohl’s, fleeing the scene, but forgetting just one thing: his 2-year-old girl.

Police say that Andrew Surplus, age 39, was stopped by a security guard outside the main doors of the Kohl’s store around 12:30 p.m. in the afternoon last weekend.
Police Officer Keith Lockhart, on parking lot patrol, approached the two men--Surplus immediately ran back into the store in order to escape authorities. Our educational system may be pushing for “no child left behind”, but the coat thief missed that motto.

Surplus is accused of trying to steal $2,250 worth of leather merchandise, all in coats from the Kohl’s store. The two-year-old child was turned over to foster parents by Delaware County Children and Youth Services shortly afterward.
Police then received a call from the girl’s mother, Surplus’ girlfriend, claiming she’d been told the child was in police custody. Never mess with a mad mom: Surplus’ girlfriend identified Surplus as the alleged suspect in the Kohl’s theft.

Surplus gained a few legal charges—and, no doubt, an irate girlfriend—in the botched Kohl’s fiasco: the man is now charged with retail theft, endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
