While we protect the U.S. President with secret service and through every means possible, a pick-up game of basketball proves detrimental to the executive office: Barack Obama gets 12 stitches in his lip, hit on Defense in a Fort McNair game with family and friends.
"After being inadvertently hit with an opposing player's elbow in the lip while playing basketball…President [Obama] received 12 stitches today administered by the White House Medical Unit," says Washington, D.C. Obama had been in Fort McNair specifically in order to dedicate a bit of time to one of his favorite games.
The pick-up game was a five-on-five including family and friends – and Reggie Love, Obama's personal assistant who previously played basketball at Duke.
No word on who done the dirty deed but, yeah, the President's probably going to have a "war wound" after this one: White House Medical used a smaller filament for the 12 facial stitches, for a tighter tie and less scarring -- but twelve in the lip is a worthy gash.
During the presidential election race, President Obama told Bryant Gumbel that a lot of info about a person is revealed -- based on their 'game'. "I do think you can tell something about people from how they play basketball,'" said Obama. "For example, people who keep on shooting even though they have no jump shot,'' Obama said at the time in his media interview: "You can tell that there is a certain self-delusional aspect to their game that says something about who they are.''
Barack Obama's comments make his stitches incident a bit ironic: the U.S. President was playing "Defense" at the time of his game injury.
