While most fight to “beat the bulge,” a man traveling through Mexico City’s airport was specifically sporting one—made of monkeys. Stopped by police when authorities became suspicious of a bulge under his t-shirt, the man was found to be carrying not one monkey-but 18 tiny, endangered monkeys--all hidden in a girdle.
Public Safety says that 38-year-old Roberto Cabrera had arrived to Mexico City via commercial flight from Lima, Peru--the bulge resulting in a body search.
The department says Cabrera was carrying 6-inch, endangered Titi species monkeys in pouches that were attached to the girdle. Two of the monkeys were sadly dead, Cabrera arrested on trafficking of an endangered species charges.
Cabrera told police he had been carrying the monkeys in a suitcase but decided to transfer the monkeys to his girdle a method he apparently believed more humane--"so the X-rays wouldn't hurt them [the endangered monkeys]"
With that theory, no explanation on how the man happened to just have a girdle at the ready.
