A 600-pound mother wants to gain 400 pounds and eat her way to title of the world's heaviest living woman, by topping 1000 pounds-she just might win, as the rest of the contenders are already dead.
Donna Simpson claims she's "very healthy" despite Type 2 diabetes and barely being able to walk 20 feet before sitting down.
Simpson, age 42 and living in New Jersey,currently weighs more than 600 pounds but is aiming to reach 1,000 pounds in weight.
When people set goals, it typically involves living life-not cutting it short.
The mother of two children, ages 3 and 14, says she "models" on a website called supersizedbombshells.com, where admirers and the curious can pay (that's right, pay) to watch videos of Simpson eating fast food or walking to the car (despite the fact she can't walk far).
Simpson has appeared in television interviews and said she welcomes news media coverage. A Guinness World Records spokeswoman says Simpson has submitted a claim for the title of "world's heaviest woman to give birth", a claim being reviewed by Guinness Records.
Simpson currently wears a size 7XL, with a waist measuring 85 inches-the woman can barely walk 20 feet before having to sit. Among the heaviest women on record reportedly weighed 1,800 pounds (approximately three times Simpson's current weight), another reportedly weighed 1,200 pounds--at the time of their deaths.
Simpson said she has received a book offer (possible publisher unknown-and with any logic, may keep it that way) and she also wants her own reality TV show.She says she wants the reality TV show partly because she wants to give "plus-size" women more confidence. Those who typically consider themselves "plus-size" women may not appreciate that reference-Simpson wears a size XXXXXL in clothing.
The New Jersey woman buys clothing mainly online, and calls herself a member of the "fat acceptance community." "The bigger your butt is, the bigger belly you have, the sexier you are," claims Simpson. The mother says she's found a man who says he appreciates her size, planning to marry in Hawaii this year-referencing that airlines are being "accommodating" of her needs.
Fiancee, 49-year-old Philippe Gouamba and father of Simpson's 3-year-old daughter, said he not only finds Simpson attractive but is also one of Simpson's biggest supporters in her quest to expand her girth.
Well, it would seem maybe he doesn't plan to spend the rest of his life with her by his side.
"You look at her curves and see her full belly and generous hips," Gouamba said. "It's very sexy."
Simpson says she's received e-mail communication from other "heavy" women who believe they will never fall in love or have children due to their weight. "I just say [to them] that's not true," Simpson said. "I would love to be a voice, so that people can see a woman of size having a regular family."
How about a "voice" of reason-having a family also means living long enough to actually see that family.
Simpson says she also receives mail or communication from people who say that she is putting herself and her children at risk, through her weight. She spends as much as $750 per week on food groceries, and currently already suffers from Type 2 diabetes. In fact she struggles with even the most basic tasks like cooking and taking a shower, which probably makes it a good thing that's she already found a husband with that lack of showers.
Donna Simpson dismisses critics who warn that her weight can lead to heart problems, aggravate her Type 2 diabetes and cause strain and pressure on her joints. "I'm very healthy. I go to the doctor every three months," she said.
That doctor may beg to differ about the "very healthy" factor. Frequent doctor visits don't equate healthiness-and Type 2 diabetes and lack of exercise, or even being able to stand for very long, doesn't seem to fall under the normal definition of "healthy" let alone "very healthy"
Simpson has battled weight issues all her life and says she was mercilessly teased about her weight. But after a friend died, following complications from gastric bypass surgery, she decided to quit dieting and taking weight pills, choosing to instead simply eat what she wanted. Apparently it didn't stop with simply eating what she wanted, since Simpson's current goal is to now add 400 pounds, striving to nearly double her current weight-to 1000 pounds.
If showers are a problem now, they're certain to be an issue then.
