A new Motorola cell phone literally explodes in a Texas man's ear while he's using the mobile device -- and Motorola launches its own backward PR campaign, insinuating that the man is lying about the blood-covered device having exploded and denies liability because the phone still 'functions'.
Smack in the middle of the holiday and Christmas seasons, when consumers choose to buy the newest releases of mobile phones, Motorola cuts off its nose to spite its face -- insinuating that the man who required stitches for a Droid 2 bought just 48 hours before is at fault for his injury by the electronics device.
The Motorola Droid 2 cell phone explosion resulted in an ER trip and two stitches in the guy's left ear -- the brand-new mobile phone purchased only two days prior, before it exploded during use.
On the upside, the cell phone's still working. On the downside, the cell phone's still working: Motorola seems to be claiming a lack of liability, specifically because the Droid 2 still functions or rings.
Aron Embry of Cedar Hill, Texas, was interviewed by Fox 4 News of Dallas-Fort Worth in video, explaining to Fox News:
"I heard a pop. I didn't feel any pain initially. I pulled the [Droid 2 cell] phone down. I felt something dripping. I realized that it was probably blood. I went into the house and as I got into the bathroom and once I got to the mirror and saw it, it was only then I kinda looked at my phone and noticed the screen had appeared to burst outward."
Embry's wife told Fox News reporters that the Droid 2 cell had been ringing through the day, after the "blow up" that caused stitches. Portable electronics are occasionally known to explode, but it's generally tied to a massive fault in the battery, which is rendered useless as a result.
The Texas man told Fox 4 News that he doesn’t have health insurance and is basically looking to get reimbursement for the stitches and medical treatment from the Motorola electronics company. The idea of having emergency room bills, due solely to injury from a device just purchased, doesn't seem unrealistic or undue -- but Motorola, apparently isn't too keen on the idea.
Motorola seems to either need a new PR company or a lesson in keeping its mouth shut: when Fox 4 News showed video footage of the exploding cell phone report in Texas to a phone repair expert, the 'expert's' assessment was that the Droid 2 damage was "user caused."
Motorola was dumb enough to tell msnbc.com that the major electronics manufacturer has "no reason to believe the Droid 2 ‘exploded’ -- because the phone is still operational and intact. Motorola tells MSNBC News: "We believe this is an isolated incident and are not aware of any similar issues."
Apparently the blood-covered cell phone screen with shatter marks, burn marks and immediate ER trip for stitches aren't enough 'evidence' for Motorola -- until that image is shared around the globe during the holiday season.
