Rapper Lil Wayne's been busted at Rikers for possession of illegal contraband, an "unauthorized" iPod charger and headphones. Turns out, an Apple iPod is dangerous, dangerous stuff. The iPod and headphones contraband was found in his Rikers Island cell last week by prison guards, but the prison infraction hasn't proved severe enough to yank the rapper's phone privileges.
In a speakerphone conversation that was videotaped by DJ Scoob Doo, Tha Carter III rapper, Lil Wayne, checked in from jail to discuss last week's iPod contraband incident at Rikers, and promote the upcoming Nino Brown 3 DVD. Lil Wayne's fans are up for update on the rapper's time behind bars in prison. "I got the penthouse suite up here in Rikers New York], man. I got my feet up," Lil Wayne joked, while currently serving up to a possible one-year sentence after the rapper's guilty plea in 2007. Wayne was prosecuted for weapons charges after a gun was found on his tour bus, supposedly seen by a police officer as being tossed into a Louis Vuitton knapsack. Lil Wayne is slated to serve just 8 months of that one year sentence, with good behavior, set to be released from Rikers in November.
Rolling Stone previously had reported that rapper Lil Wayne has some issues last week when a search of his prison cell by Rikers guards yielded an unauthorized pair of headphones and iPod charger-both pieces of contraband hidden in the cell's garbage can. "Ain't too much, I got in a little trouble and whatnot, you feel me," Wayne told Scoob Doo. "Yeah, they tried to bang me with that. But I can't live without my music. You know how it is, man. I needed my music. It's all good. I had to take my little slip up. I ain't trippin'. Players fuck up." Before heading to jail, Lil Wayne was clear in interviews, so it's no surprise--he'd told Rolling Stone in an interview before his Rikers stay: "I'll have an iPod, and I'll make sure they keep sending me beats."
Lil Wayne had asked fellow rapper Scoob Doo when the "Steady Mobbin' " video, one of a dozen vids Wayne had filmed prior to going to prison, will air. Scoob replied they're waiting for Gucci Mane, just recently released from jail, to film his cameo for Wayne's music video. Despite last week's iPod contraband, Lil Wayne is still on track to be released from Rikers New York prison this November after his 8 months' time.
Jobs is apparently missing his prime commercial opportunity: a rapper willing to do more time, just to have that iPod.
