Santa apparently tried to deliver early to a Connecticut residence but, unfortunately for the gift recipient, the marijuana stash has been confiscated before the holiday: 110 pounds worth of well-decorated pot, shipped in gift-wrapped Christmas packages, has been seized by police on arrival to New Haven. It's destined to be far less of a merry season for “Jessie”.
Holidays may seem like the prime time for shipping illegal goods, but it didn’t quite work out that one for one “gift recipient”: Christmas packages wrapped in holiday-themed paper and complete with ribbons, bows were sent to a recipient named “Jessie”.
Gift tags read, "To Jessie, From Santa" – but, unfortunately for “Jessie”, the gift did not keep on giving. The marijuana was confiscated by cops waiting on the other side. Police immediately seized the shipment thought to contain nearly half a million dollars worth of pot.
Estimated to be at least $400,000 in marijuana, the “Christmas gift” shipment originated in California state, police already waiting for the pot gift delivery when it arrived at its destination of Townsend Avenue in New Haven, Connecticut.
While someone went to an awful lot of trouble to “wrap it up right,” the genius factor seems to have been skipped: the pot package contained 110 pounds of marijuana in a single shipment. Perhaps the shipper may have been wiser to split things up. Police say the homeowner’s grandson, a 29-year-old self-employed musician, admits the package to have been slated for him.
The Indiana, 110-lb pot shipment, beats the holiday ploy from last Christmas season where police confiscated a pot-stuffed bear at an Orange County toy store on December 22. The two-foot tall stuffed animal was stuffed with three lbs of marijuana, delivered to the "Toy Town" California store. At least that shipper was smart enough not to cross state lines -- and only lose a couple grand, compared to half a mil.
