The strangest of events surround a Kansas City, Missouri, police investigation of a 22-year-old woman’s story that she awoke to the word “hoe” etched into her chest after a weekend motel fling with a date.
The 22-year-old says she first arrived to the Crown Lodge motel when accompanied by a man she’d met the afternoon prior via a dating service. The woman says she was drinking with the date when an argument over sex occurred, resulting in the “date” leaving from the motel room near 7 p.m., and taking the room key with him.
It’s unclear as to why the woman would not have requested the motel room entry to be rekeyed after the man left with a key—supposedly after heated argument.
She says her drinking of a bottled ‘ Long Island Iced Tea’ continued after he left, before she she fell asleep 8 hours later near 3 a.m., and with a box cutter specifically located next to he--bedside.
Reason for presence of a box cutter, in a motel room, while on a date, is unclear.
In a timeframe between 4-6 a.m., the 22-year-old says she awoke, groggy, to a man in the room--he was pacing the room, calling her a “hoe”—however she’s unsure whether it was the man she’d brought to her motel room previously in the evening.
It’s unclear how the woman saw a pacing man in the dark, or why lights in the room would have been on—in the middle of the night—while she was sleeping.
According to the young woman, she went back to sleep and then awoke three to five hours later near 9 a.m., feeling pain in her head and face and in torn clothing. Police report says she was not sure whether rape had occurred, that she discovered the word “hoe” to be etched in her chest, and that the previously-present box cutter had disappeared.
The inexplicable presence of a box cutter next to the bed is trumped by the confusing report of the woman falling back to sleep while an unidentified man supposedly paces the interior of her motel room.
The motel manager says that the business was near-capacity that night—and questions the thin walls, coupled with no one complaining of any disturbance, to validate the woman’s claim.
The alleged Missouri event falls on the heels of the strange and recent acid case, where a Washington woman, originally claiming that a stranger had thrown acid into her face at random, now admits to the scenario having been self-induced and a hoax. September 2010, the 28-year-old Bethany Storro had informed Oregon police that an African-American woman threw a cup of acid in her face at random. Storro received surgery following the acid incident, later admitting the story to be a lie.
The Crown Lodge motel runs about $30 per night. The motel’s manager refers to the “place of business” as what he calls “transient lodging”—indicating that he highly questions the woman’s story and chain of events she says occurred in a room there.
No suspects are currently in police custody related to the Kansas City, Missouri, case.
Events may be hazy but one fact remains: literacy, apparently, does not run rampant throughout America when an “insult” references a garden tool rather than its intended slang for whore.
