A Milwaukee man originally accused of scaring a woman to death is now slated to spend nine years in prison—after firing shots into a house where a woman was sleeping. Marzella Woodson died of a heart attack caused by the shooting.

Justin Owen of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, had originally been charged with second-degree reckless homicide. Police say the man admitted to firing several shots into a house near 16th Street and Hadley Avenue—in the Milwaukee area—in late spring of 2010. Woodson, age 58, was inside and asleep in the residence when the shots were fired last May. The Medical Examiner says the woman died from heart failure, specifically related to an emotional response caused by the shooting.

In a plea deal, Owen was charged with the lesser charge of homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon—receiving nine years in prison and five additional years of probation.
